The Lewisburg Police Department together with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department formed a tactical unit in 2009. This joint tactical unit, more commonly referred to as the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT), provides services not only in Lewisburg and Marshall County, but also to other jurisdictions if requested.
SWAT is a lifesaving unit with the sole purpose of using advanced skills, training, and equipment to resolve the most dangerous and challenging of situations. Every effort is made to complete missions in the safest manner possible for the community and officers alike.
The SWAT team handles a variety of missions including:
- Hostage / Rescue operations
- Barricaded subjects
- High risk search and arrest warrant service
- Surveillance
- Dignitary protection
- Vulnerability and threat assessments
- Training
