What is the Criminal Investigation Division?
Comprised of sworn law enforcement officers, the Lewisburg Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division manages and oversees all aspects of criminal investigations of crimes against persons and property crime. The division periodically works to educate citizens on how to protect themselves from being a victim of a crime.
Lewisburg Police Detectives are committed to providing citizens with prompt, diligent, and proactive investigations. Detectives are specially trained to maximize the use of traditional investigative techniques in combination with the most current technological resources available. Interfacing with other municipal, county, state, and federal agencies when needed these specialists conduct undercover operations, surveillance, interviews and interrogation, and collect and process evidence. Due to the complexity of the tasks assigned, personnel assigned to this division undergo extensive continuing education to hone their skills and learn new techniques for solving crime.
Detectives normally work Monday to Friday 8:00am until 4:30 pm, but to facilitate active investigations their schedules are often altered. Detectives are also on-call 24 hours a day on a rotating basis.
How cases are assigned for investigation?
If you report a crime to the Lewisburg Police Department, a patrol officer will normally respond to the location of the crime and complete an offense report detailing the crime. The offense report will then be forwarded to the supervisor of criminal investigations for review who will determine which reports are assigned to a detective for investigation. Detectives are normally assigned only felony cases, but they may investigate misdemeanor cases when deemed necessary. An offense report may also be returned to the patrol division for a patrol officer to conduct an investigation.
